Abstract
Elena Simonchuk, the author of the following chapter, conducts the comparative analysis of class structures of Ukraine, the countries of Eastern and Western Europe on the basis of the ESS-data. Thus alternative class schemes (Erikson/Goldthorpe/Portocarero, Wright and Esping-Andersen), the most popular in contemporary sociology, have been used. For their construction syntaxes from the article of H. Leiulfsrud, I. Bison, H. Jensberg “Social Class in Europe” recommended by the coordinators of the ESS-project for the comparative class analysis were used. In order to construct the mentioned class schemes the core module of the questionnaire contains all necessary information on respondents’ employment; moreover the occupations in all national datasets are coded according to the International Standard Classification of Occupations ISCO-88. The basic content of the chapter is the theoretical grounds of each of three class schemes, features of their operationalizations and technical tools as well as the analysis of class structure of Ukraine compared to the European countries in respect to each scheme.
